Appologies, but it was so big that the spoiler tags wouldn't hold it!

So here are my thoughts on 'The Curse of the Black Spot':

Okay I have a fair bit to grumble about and a bit to praise so I'm going to break it down into topics:

Script
Now last year I had the greatest of joys in watching Sherlock, A Study in Pink and The Great Game were brilliantly interesting as well as being funny and though provoking... and then there was The Blind Banker a story that didn't seem to fit, that felt as though the writer was working off cliff-notes of the other two. Needless to say when I saw this same writer, Steven Thompson, was back for writing duties this time around I was a little apprehensive... And in all honesty, while there were good moments the script over all felt like a mess, this rising action but no crescendo or fall, and random bits of fan bait interjected with nonsense. Let me dissect that:

For random rising with no fall, lets take the conversation between Captain Avery and his son as an example, they talk and the son realizes his father is not the honest trustworthy man that he believed in, and most people would assume this ties into the growth of Avery as a character in the episode. However aside from the Doctor berating Avery for his greed later, I never see the pirate actually come to terms with this and try and resolve things with his son. True he does choose to leave his life behind to be with his son and travel the stars, but is that repenting or even punishment?

Now to the fan baiting... I think we know what I'm talking about... Amy dressed as a pirate. Why? What purpose did it serve to have her dress up as that? Also he said take her to the Gallery... so the pirate throws her down the stairs and leaves her with the weapons???

And finally nonsense, now you're telling me the Doctor would have not looked at all the OBVIOUS MEDICAL EQUIPMENT!! and thought to himself, 'hey maybe this thing is a doctor??'... I mean there is suspension of disbelief and then there was this.

I will admit some of the lines were quite good, but then again I put some of that down to the acting rather than the writing... I'll get into that later.

The Doctor
Matt Smith was at his usually top form, although I will say that once he entered the Siren's ship, his usual manic and engrossing energy seemed to disparate, while I enjoyed his hug of the TARDIS, the rest of his time seemed to be spent thinking and then brooding.

That said the ending of the episode, which was obviously inserted by Moffat, had the Doctor as he should be when concerned, cornered and confused. He drew me and made me interested in how this will be solved.

Also when I said before that I thought the actors were making some of the poorer lines better, I was referring to Matt's first appearance in the episode. That level of comedy after a death, and a very serious introduction, can be dangerous. Not only can it put the audience off side, but it can also set the wrong tone for the rest of the episode. However the way Matt changed his face and gave such a regretful 'Does no one say Yo Ho Ho?' was not only comically brilliant, but it almost seemed to give the scene before the respect it deserved. Without such a competent actor, and director, that line could have easily been bungled.

Rory
I should be very well known by now that I love Rory. To me Rory is my companion, the one I will look back on in 10 years and go, 'that was the guy I wanted to be'. So giving Arthur Darvill early on some good comedic time as he went very Doctor-esque about wanting a beard, was really nice to see. However as we reached the end and Rory became more of a Damsel in Distress, I became less pleased. The dude has helped the Doctor repair the TARDIS, he spent 2,000 years guarding the box of the woman he loves. Do you really think he would just be sitting still and not trying to help when he has his wits about him?

Also, did we really need to kill Rory AGAIN? I know this one was only for a moment, but seriously, this guy has died 3 times now, it's starting to get REALLY old.

Amelia (Amy)
Is Amy just a plot point this season?? Seriously, she seems to have lost most of her own character, simply becoming the girl who see metal eye-patch ladies, and might be pregnant. She doesn't have any real character out side of being the 'flirty companion'. Not that this is necessarily a bad thing, but it just seems like no-one knows what to do with her. Aside from planting herself at the center of the plot as well as getting captured, what did Amy do in that first episode? And in this one, aside from dressing her as a pirate and getting her to bring Rory back to life, it seemed like Thompson didn't know what to do with her. And in retrospect, I guess that is what annoyed me so much about the CPR on Rory point, it just felt like an arbitrary 'give Amy something to do' point. This isn't to say Karen Gillian is a bad Actress, far from it, I found that resuscitation scene, aside from the other problems, quite compelling, and it was her acting that did it for me.

Other CharactersCaptain Avery was or only other main character in this episode, and aside from grasping the notion of the TARDIS batter than a 1960's FBI agent (Who would have been living with SciFi so would have been better prepared to understand) was a very fun character, Henry Bonnington, did a wonderful job making the Captain not only emotionally likable, but also a true pirate rather than a good man trapped in his own dealings. His son was obviously there as only a character to be used as emotional baggage for Avery's arc... although what that arc was still confuses me? He didn't seem any better or worse a person by the end, so why the bother changing him? Also I know this is griping, but the Doctor told Avery his son couldn't be saved because he had Typhoid fever and thus would need to stay on the ship... HOWEVER, Typhoid fever would be treatable in either: A. Modern day earth or B. Future Earth or even C. A futuristic alien planet. So why couldn't the Doctor just take them there in the TARDIS?

The Siren was more of a nothing villain, there was no real tension when she appeared, and when she took someone I felt no loss, even with Rory, only because by then it became apparent that these men weren't really dying. Also I want a show of hands, who else realized that she was an on-board doctor when our Doctor said the aliens were dead from diseases?

Also of note, the Doctor identified that she only takes the sick so she wouldn't just take something that people were wanting to escape in... So why did she take the TARDIS? Is the TARDIS sick? Food for thought perhaps.

Threads
I swear this is the last point... but it is really 2 points :D

The woman with the metal eye patch was back in this episode... I don't know what to make of this one, I assume she is something in Amy's head, but unless something happened to Amy during that missing period between episode 1 and episode 2 then why would she suddenly be seeing her now?

That Pregnancy is beginning to interest me, once again this is an instance of Matt Smith selling me on something I otherwise would find annoying and silly. Matt's entire persona and proformance in that final part where he is looking at the pregnancy test results again is just BRILLIANT! He plays the sad old man guardian who jut wants to help a person in need SOOO well that I don;t even care how badly he is trying to hammer this stuff in.

With those 2 things said I will bring up one last thing (so yeah I lied about those being the last things :P) In season 5, the continued appearance of those cracks was a polarizing thing, some of my friends extremely disliked it, screaming for the days of Bad Wolf and Vote Saxon to come back, whilst others (myself included) thought it was fine and only served to prove how all encompassing this situation was. I think this seasons links are much better, in that they have been made a lot more interesting and personal, since they don't just get thrown as reminders at the audience, but they are shaping how the TARDIS crew interact.

Okay, that's it I'm done dusted and out. Please respond and question/yell at me. Phew, hopefully next weeks Gaiman episode won't have me so annoyed.

TREAT!!! (How the episode should have ended [As made by me])

Hello there!

So lets get this out there right now...

I won't be posting Strips for at least a week and then they will be drastically cut back to one maybe two a week. The reason is life is still kicking me in the pants at the moment. So while this Blog has been nice and therapeutic, I don't have the time to give to it right now. So yes, I am back in a smaller capacity, you'll just have to keep an eye out ;)

p.s. For the last month I have been inside production nightmare time for a version of Jekyll and Hyde I directed so that has been the reasoning behind the lack of... anything.

6 & Reggie Review: Roland Emmerich

More from me:
Hello, so I've been thinking about expanding my portfolio from just this strips to doing something else, whether that be something completely different or possibly doing more movie survival guides (like my twilight one) Let me know what you think below:

Frustration versus Inebriation

I like 8:
I'd just like to throw this out there because in all honesty I do tend to make a fair amount of fun of 8, but in all honesty I like the characterisation of D8, I think McGann was really believable and true to a doctor role, however when I see videos like this it tends to remind me why I continue to poke fun!

Hitchhikers

Support the Browncoats:
So sometime ago Nathan Fillion in a throw away Tweet decided to say that if he had the money he would buy the rights to Firefly and make it available for FREE!!!! on the internet. And some bright sparks then thought to themselves "Why not!" So it is my honour to endorse Help Nathan Buy Firefly, get onto it so one day we can all "Take my love take my land" and "Take me where I cannot stand"

6 & Reggie Review: Twilight

Pain... Nothing but pain:
God this was painful, But to let you all know my thoughts... this movie was BLAND, no more no less, the direction was terrible, the acting was sub-par and the editing was atrocious and all this culminated into a bland 2 hours of my life I can't get back... so whose up for watching the next one?

Love is in the air

Hello Saint Valentine:
I'd just like to come out and support of Valentine's day today, most people say it is a day purely dedicated to commercialising love and that we should be sharing the emotion of love everyday and not just on this set day, but I can honestly say that I have never picked up on this. So next year we will be celebrating St. Alfwold Day, also known as Happy Day :). Where everyone will smile and give yellow stress balls and wear smiley face masks... But I swear we aren't getting more commercial.

GADAET Intros

Aliens Have Problems too:
Hey there everyone, let me introduce GADAET, now as any Who connoisseur knows, writers love to use the Doctor's emotional baggage every once in a while to fuel storylines, whether they be single episodes or whole self indulgent specials that win a Hugo award for some reason (Not point the finger or anything) Anyway, one of the things I have always wondered is what sort of mental issues would the Aliens that the doctor faces off against have, surely there must be some mental scaring? and so we have GADAET of Group Against Depression Amongst Extra Terrestrials. Hopefully we can help them.

Maddened Notes to Surviving: TWILIGHT

This is not a comic however it is related to the GP-verse. Enjoy!

One thing I have felt bad about when passing judgement on twilight is that I have never seen those films, and am thus passing on second-hand information. Well not anymore, below you will find my tweet stream from watching the entire thing from start to finish. Be warned this film is a painful experience, I recommend a full bottle of Jack Daniels before anyone attempts it:

Oh god, here we go... Pray for me

Before the movie began ther was a warning:
Supernatural themes, now there's a laugh

Bella's opening narration:

" Never given much thought how I will die" I have, it'll probably be watching this film

During Bella's Opening Narration Edward hunts down a deer:
No NOT BAMBI'S MOTHER!!! Have you no shame movie!!!

And this dialogue, why don't we just write on the bottom of the screen, this scene is meant to be awkward and move on

Hey Jacob... CUT YOUR GOD DAMN HAIR

In reference to Kristen Stewerts acting:
Love it, I think she just made Tommy Wiseau look credible

I guessed this in the first 15 minutes of the movie, and shock horror it turned out to be true:
Eric is also the only Asian guy in Forks

In reference to Bella:
Hey Mike.. Why are you hitting on her, she is making cardboard look interesting

Our first meeting with the esteemed Mr Cullen:
Oh dear god, it's Edward. Also Gorgeous? He looks like a Ken Doll on Crack!!

When Edward goes creepy faced in Biology:
Wow, subtle dude, couldn't even tell you are insane or anything

Bella slipping over... Highlight so far

During Bella and Edward's first real conversation:
.... THIS ISN'T COMPELLING IT IS JUST AWKWARD
Yeah it's a bad sign when the film is talking about the weather
It's funny because Vampires are wet and cold... Get it???? We can do comedy we swear!
Why are we talking like this:
Because the writer is a moron thats why
Hey isn't there a science project we could watch them do? It's better than either of them trying to do Drama

The Cullen family stands in the distance:
And the rejects of the Black Parade look forlorn and walk away
Hello, I just came from a GQ Shoot.... You can tell because I can't act either, not that that surprises me

Edward convincing Bella he didn't save her from the truck:
And now you're being a dick... and she's just being subservient... What is wrong with this writer?

Bella talks to one of the normal boys:
Hey that guy has some interest in you... WHY NOT GO FOR HIM???

You just tripped her douche cheese, thats how she fell over. In other news a worm, how exciting!

In reference to the mother never really being on camera:
Who wouldn't be, shes trying to keep as far away from the film as she can, that is the smart thing to do.

Bella telling people to be strong independent Women... I will let the hipocracy settle in with all of you

I think the Flashback effect is one of the cheesiest I've seen in a LOOOOOOONNNGGG!!! Time

As the vampire trio is about to attack the guy in the boat:
A genuinely nice guy singing somewhere on his own.. Count down his inevitable death with me children

One of the other 'Urban Legends' on the Native American site Bella visits:
"Legend of the Slapping Beavers", Why aren't we watching that Legend rather than this stupid one?

Wow from that behind the bush angle, I wonder whether this is supposed to be someone following her?

Hey Bella quick question... Why get in the car with the maniac who turned up out of nowhere, and must be stalking you?

Note to the cats of twilight: ACTING ISN"T YOUR ENEMY IT IS YOUR FRIEND... USE IT!!!!

Why Edward looks the way he does:

On a special diet of only drinking Pixie Blood

Edward says he doesn't have the strength to stay away from Bella:
Yet you have the Strength not to eat her... how does that work?

Oh crap they're trying to do Drama again... Someone save me!!

Charlie gives Bella mace to protect her from the savage human killing 'animal'
There is a savage animal that is ripping people to shreds and draining their blood... and you gave her mace

What is up with this scene, the cameraman is filming like he is drunk

The effects of the Vampires running and doing their supermoves:
By god, that running effect makes UFO's on strings look compelling

Most vampire's melt in the sun, you glow.... Are you gay?

No seriously, he is repulsed by Bella and sparkles in the sun, he is so gay

So we aren't going to kiss her... Call me a slut but... WHY NOT? Oh great lying in a field, we're up to 8 on the cliche-o-meter

The Edward Gay List:
Actually lets list this homosexual points for Edward: 1. He can't stand the smell of bella

2. He Sparkles
3. He dresses like he copied it straight out of a magazine
4. he sparkles
5. He won't show affection for you
and for 6. ... Oh yhea, He SPARKLES!!!!
Edward not wanting to be a monster:
But you are a monster... THATS THE POINT OF THE ORIGINAL VAMPIRE STORY!!!

Weren't there some evil vampires in this? Can't we go and watch them for a bit? PLEASE!
Bella and Edward jumping through the trees:
Is this supposed to be cute or romantic cause all I can think is "Someone fire this director now please"
"Bella it's Friday night, go out" Reminds me of how sad sitting home tonight and watching Twilight is
Edward's revelation to Bella of what he does at nights:
"I like watching you sleep" RUN AWAY!!!!! THIS ISN"T ROMANTIC. IT IS JUST CREEPY!!!!!
By the way, these changes in camera angle and really distracting, can't you just stop for a second and linger a shot?
and another ad break... we really need a good trailer.. Big Momma 3.... God.. Do you hate me or something??
The baseball Scene:
Seriously if the director wanted to make Music videos then she should have done that rather than making us watch this dribble
Hang on, in the second act of any story you introduce the villain. so it took 1 hour and 50 minutes to get to the second act...
Alice has her psychic vision:
#T4Twi Wait when did Edward tell us Alice was psychic?
#T4Twi Yeah as a kid she had a backbone, wouldn't it be nice if she had that back hmmm?
Edward shows up and attacks James (Evil Vampire)
#T4Twi finally someone showing us they have some balls.. Oh wait it's Edward, I take that back
James bites Bella
#T4Twi and a vampire bite... well it's only taken us, 2.25 hours
The rest of the Cullen's arrive
#T4Twi it's like vampire special forces
Edward removes the venom from Bella:
#T4Twi Umm quick question, why are we letting edward to the venom sucking when he has admitted to having some issues with stopping, when Carlile has shown much better restraint???
#T4Twi you know making Orgasm noises while sucking her wrist isn't exactly impressive.
To cover her injuries they say Bella fell down some staris:
#T4Twi Because you're a clumsy bitch aren't you... seriously they couldn't come up with a better lie?
Bella decides to stay in Forks:
#T4Twi You must be dilusional, why live in Forks. There are crazy monsters there, and apparently you are repulsed by all the decent and sane people. Aside from the SparkleLords what possible reason do you have to stay??

Edward is sad about how his vampirism may kill Bella:
#T4Twi Ow mope mope mope, well I'm glad they won't do this for another 2 films that would be stup... oh wait
#T4Twi and more rehashed scenery. You know you're starting to steal the resetting of the scene from Tommy Wiseau... NOT GOOD!
Jacob talks to Bella:
#T4Twi Hey it's that guy who had next to no part in the film, well see you next film. I look forward to you GETTING A DAMN HAIRCUT!!!
Edward acts like he is going to bite Bella:
#T4Twi Hooray! Do it and spare us 2 more movies
He doesn't:
#T4Twi ... God Damnit!
The final thoughts on this whole thing will be delivered by Reggie and 6 Next Thursday. But I think you can guess how well this will all go down.
Also if people have enjoyed this style of pick-notes than please let me know as I may do some more for other box office floops (Floops: a word for a film that, while not a financial flop was a critical disaster).

Good luck and Good-coral

Science = Silly Putty:
So this week is centred entirely around 'The Past is Present in the Future' and will finish off this 6 strip arc. So as you may have seen this strip features around a bit of coral being able to grow a TARDIS... Yeah ... This obviously never went to air, but at the end of 'Journey's End' 10 was going to give this TARDIS growing coral to Handy. It was cut, thank god.

Once Around the Cuckoo's Nest

Don't Worry, We're All Crazy Here:
Once again we return to 'The Past is Present in the Future', also I'm happy to say that next week will be dedicated to the completion of this thread, so once again no 6 & Reggie. Also for those who asked, I managed to get past the quiz portion of my game show audition and am now waiting for a call up to go on the show. I'll keep you posted.

The Seinfeld Approach

Game Show God:
So today's strip was two-fold in it's creation. First of all I wanted to expand the review scale of 6 & Reggie past just Who episodes featuring Daleks, and secondly because I wanted to further show how out of step with Who lore Reggie is. On a completely separate topic tonight I'm auditioning for a game show, so wish me luck!

Daddy Issues

Geeking Up:
For those who haven't heard apparently David [10th Doctor] Tennent is going to marry Gorgia [Doctor's Daughter] Moffet, who also happens to be the daughter of Peter [5th Doctor] Davidson. Thats all the information you need for this strip. On another note I recently noticed how geeky my car is getting. Don't believe me? Well take a look:

I think I need help!

6 & Reggie Review: Victory of the Daleks

Sonta- NAH!!:
So yhea anoother Reggie and 6, and I'm assuming people saw this inevitably coming. However informantion form Who-central today is that Sontarans may be making another grand apperence in new Who soon (Which when you put it together with a 2-parter focusing on cloning isn't that far a stretch). So much as I enjoyed the original 2-parter with the Sontarans during the 10-Donna times... I don't know how I feel about them reappearing. I mean it's great and all to see classic villains reappearing, but just because they're there doesn't make them formidable as a threat I never really got that from them, they just seemed .. Well like my younger brother wielding a nail-gun, dangerous, but adorable at the same time.

Closing the Door

My peace with 10 (but not with RTD):
So as you may recall my first ever strip that I posted here was a dig at the love of 10 and Rose, now as much as I loved 10 I always hated Rose and what she represented, a thought that we need more Soap Opera in our Sci Fi (or Sy Fy if you're American). However these issues I can no longer take out on 10 so I'm closing the door to these style of jokes... I will however continue to dig at RTD in the future though so look forward to that.

The Pastly Presents

The Past  is Present for in the Future:
So today I have the first in what is a conjointed running strip, that's right a running strip, so these stories will flow on with each other and will hopefully be released each Saturday, with the possible exception of next week (I'll explain why in a second). Another thing today is that I now have a TARDIS!!! That's right I have a TARDIS and thus will probably be using it again, just to add to my collection. And finally I am heading off on a holiday for a week starting today and getting back the same time next week. While I am gone I will attempt to keep the strips coming but I can't make that a promise, so I if I fail to upload there will be a quick uploading time over the following week.  Hopefully see you soon guys :)

6 & Reggie Review: Revelation of the Daleks

Thoughts that Amuse Me:
Today's strip is once again an episode of Reggie and 6 Review, I'm thinking on branching out from the simple Dalek format, but I'm not sure so I'll keep you posted. So on some other rambling and unrelated topics, I've just finished shooting the February calendar pic so I'll get that up along with the first one some time soon. On another note I would like to point out that I am an Australian, and as some of you may know the Australian state of Queensland is within a natural disaster as cities are flooded. I would like to request that anyone who is reading this follow the below link to provide aid.

Many thanks, Gent

ROADTRIP!:
Back to explanations today, let me explain why I wanted to do this. When I first saw the look of the 9th Doctor (remembering that he was my first Doctor) I thought he looked like a badass moterbiker. When I watched the show I found that I was completely wrong, but it did make me wonder what a motorbike trip with D9 would be like... and so here is a Leyland Brothers version of said trip.

Of Loves Lost

Torchwood finally takes flight:
After taking its ever loving time, Torchwood has finally managed to hit it's central point. Torchwood is the spin-off series from Doctor Who manned by Russell T. Davies. On other blogs I've espoused my problems with Davies, but this series as a whole is part of a problem. You need to remember that Torchwood was created to touch on the stories that Who couldn't do, how did they choose to do that first? Why with sex and over the top violence of course. Needless to say no one was very impressed by this, and after 2 series they appeared to be slowly improving... Until the decided to do a condensed series entitle "Children of Earth", it would run over 5 days in realish time, with an episode representing a full day. With this they decided to do away with the slow progression of the show to being a good Sci Fi... And immediately skipped to being a great Sci Fi. I honestly loved Children of Earth, despite it's obvious Space Opera problems it was a real and human story that brought out the realities of being human, something which a character like The Doctor is not as able to do. And now they're back for another go at the same formula. This time, everyone on earth stops dying... Thats it, thats the entire premise. It may sound weak, but think about it, without death we can't manage people, hospitals and resources, as much as we may dislike it death is integral to our continued living... so what do we do without it? All I can say is welcome back Torchwood, I'm looking forward to you so please don't disappoint!

6 & Regie Review: Daleks in Manhatten

Say Hello to my New Friends:
Everyone say hello to my new friend Reginald the Dalek. So before I got my hands on my Doctor figures I owned a die cast Dalek, which  a seriously awesome collectable, so check it out, and I really did want to put him to some use, however I wanted him to be humorous. When I thought about the existing comedy with Daleks it was mostly through them acting out of character to insane degrees, with that one Dalek who forgot to lock the door or something. I wanted to do something different and so Reginald, despite having a funny name and reviewing  episodes / movies / whatever I can get my hands on, he will be played deadpan straight. Why? Well when you have a killing machine keeping a straight face in light of his own peoples incompetence, it can be rather enjoyable.

New Years Shenanigans

Someone has a Drinking Problem:
Today's strip is set at our New Years party, once again I have nothing against the characters. However most Who fans will agree when I say that the half-human line of the 8th Doctor was equal parts lazy and misinformed writing. This is also taking on the idea of Retconing, on a personal level I'm not a fan of any form of Retcon mostly because it only brings up large and annoying continuity issues. But hey, that's me.

Next [6 & Regie Review: Daleks in Manhatten]
Previous [The One that Started it all]

The One that started it all

First Time for Everything:
This is the first strip I did and was a general rip on the 'love' that developed between the 10th Doctor and his first companion Rose. I would like it noted that I have nothing against Ten, Rose, David Tennant and Billie Piper, my main issue is with the way this story represented Who at the time, Doctor Who to me has always been a straight Sci Fi in the vain of Star Trek (Which is really in the vain of Who, but I'm getting ahead of myself) The problem with Ten and the entire Davies run in my opinion was that rather than being a Sci Fi, Doctor Who had now become... a Space Opera, in the Style of Star Wars and Firefly. This isn't always a bad thing, since both those examples I just listed are things I love, but when compared to the old episodes it is a very jarring contrast.
